Scaling Sustainable Solutions for the Built Environment: Barriers & Enablers

UK Green Building Council

The project

This is a report design project for the UK Green Building Council’s Scaling Sustainable Solutions for the Built Environment: Barriers & Enablers report. The report examines why promising sustainable solutions often remain at the pilot stage rather than becoming standard practice. It is aimed at organisations across the built-environment value chain, including solution adopters, providers, finance and insurance organisations, and collaborative networks. Its purpose is to identify systemic barriers to adoption and set out practical actions that can help scale solutions supporting net-zero, nature-positive and resilient buildings and places.

The design challenge

The publication uses a structured editorial design system to make a complex body of research accessible and easy to navigate. A colour-coded circular framework brings together seven themes, supported by bespoke icons, detailed systems diagrams, audience markers and clearly differentiated barrier, enabler and case-study panels. Section navigation, strong typographic hierarchy, photography and large summary infographics help readers move between the overall findings and the actions most relevant to their role.
