The project

I designed a scrolling infographic which was included within the Oxfam Cymru ‘Women’s Unequal Access To Decent Work: Causes, Effects And Solutions’ learning materials. The infographic was based on extracts from academic content provided by Dr Clare Evans of ‘in-work poverty and the search for decent work for women in Wales: a literature review’. I was provided with a document outlining a number of facts, figures and research statements which were in a number of formats. I separated out the document into the data that summarize the problems, and the effects of the problems, then established how I would treat each type of fact and data type.

The challenge

The challenge was to communicate a variety of data types into a single infographic format that could be tapped into and used for teaching purposes, but also work as a long infographic. In order to do this, I designed a modular infographic, so it’s possible to remove relevant sections for use as individual graphics - so they can be used in context of the lessons that they are intended for. This reflected the brief from Oxfam as they explained they would use the infographic in a number of ways, but were not sure exactly where.

“Sam has been professional, organised and very accommodating on this project as well as using his vision to bring the data to life for the target audience.”

The impact

We provided visual resources to assist in the learning of students on Oxfam’s ‘Women’s unequal access to decent work’ educational resource, making key statistics more accessible and engaging to understand.
